17 Feb Restylane and Restylane Silk: What’s the Difference?
At LiveSkin Health and Rejuvenation Center, clients enjoy a variety of effective and innovative anti-aging treatments and services. Two great dermal fillers are Restylane and Restylane Silk. Whether you have lost volume of the face, or are concerned about lines, one of these Restylane products is right for you!
What are Restylane products?
Restylane products are hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is present in the human body naturally, and it keeps connective tissue and skin resilient and soft. As you age, the natural production of hyaluronic acid declines, which can result in wrinkles and sagging skin.
How are the two Restylane products different?
Both Restylane and Restylane Silk are formulated with hyaluronic acid. However, the size of the particles makes them different and suited for specific facial areas. Differences are:
- Restylane uses medium-sized hyaluronic acid particles to fill in moderate or severe wrinkles and lines. This produce is adept in treating lines around the eyes, mouth, and nose, corners of the mouth, and nasolabial folds. Results varies from client-to-client, but you can expect Restylane to remain effective for around 6 months.
- Restylane Silk is made of small-sized hyaluronic acid particles, which works well for the lips and lines around the mouth. These small particles will shape thin lips, add volume and plumpness, and create a youthful-looking pout. In a recent clinical study, 98% of clients treated with Restylane Silk saw improvement in lip fullness within 2 weeks of the injection. Results will last for 6-12 months.
What can I expect at my office visit?
When you come to the Medspa, the doctor or nurse will first consult with you regarding your desired look. The doctor will ask questions about your skin, examine you, and take some pictures. In addition, the doctor may request to view an old picture of you. When you are scheduled for the procedure, the doctor discusses risks and benefits, and has you sign a consent form.
Will the injections hurt?
Expect to feel a pinching sensation when the needle is inserted. Restylane injections produce only mild discomfort. Once the skin is cleaned using an antiseptic, a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area. We use fine needles to ensure the injections are as comfortable as possible. Restylane Silk contains an anesthetic in the solution, which numbs the area as the filler is inserted under the skin.
What is recovery like?
Unlike a surgical facelift, there is little downtime after a Restylane injection procedure. You can return to your daily routine just after leaving our office. Expect minimal soreness at the injection site. Redness and bruising may occur, but not always. Neither of these products hinder your usual activities.
Will I need an allergy test before receiving Restylane injections?
Restylane Silk and Restylane are non-animal based products. Therefore, allergy testing is not necessary. However, dermal fillers are not used if you have hypersensitivity to local anesthetics, such as lidocaine, have a bleeding disorder, or have a skin infection.
How do I prevent bruising?
Certain supplements and medications can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. Before the procedure, you should refrain from using these drugs for 5-7 days. They include:
- Vitamin E supplements
- John’s Wort
How much does Restylane and Restylane Silk cost?
The cost varies depending on the number of treatment areas and the amount of hyaluronic acid filler used. Expect to pay between $350 to $600 per syringe, and you may require up to 2 syringes for the treated regions.
