24 Mar Overview of Hydrogel Injections for the Buttocks
There are people who wish to improve certain parts of their bodies, such as the rear or buttocks (butt). With a new product called hydrogel, you can have a fuller backside after a few injections. To achieve a great looking behind, schedule your appointment for hydrogel injections today.
What does hydrogel do?
Hydrogel gives you an instant contoured buttock region. The injectable filler is strong, and a few injections give you instant shaping.
Hydrogel is 100% biocompatible with the body, so it does not cause hypersensitivities, lumps (granulomas), or allergies. It is made of mostly water and a small amount of a chemical polymer, which is responsible for the gel’s physical properties. Interfall, a hydrogel developed in the Ukraine in the 1990s, is a polyacrylamide gel, that is now banned in many countries. However, Aqualift, a Russian product and Aquamid, a Danish product, are still under FDA review.
Why are hydrogels used?
Hydrogels are fillers that are used to improve the size of the buttocks. Hydrogel butt injections are made of 97.5% water and 2.5% polyacrymalide, which lasts for around 18 months. These products are popular because of convenience of the procedure, and no major downtime is involved. The injections only take 30-45 minutes, and the procedure is done on an outpatient basis.
How do I prepare for hydrogel injections?
Before the procedure, you will meet with the medspa physician to discuss your cosmetic goals and expectancies. The doctor will advise you on which procedures are best for you, and take some photographs. Be sure to notify the doctor of any medications you take, as certain agents that thin the blood must be held for several days before your injections.
What can I expect after the butt injections?
After your butt injection procedure, you can expect:
- Very minimal leakage of the injected agent.
- Soreness and swelling of the buttocks.
- Reduced volume, size, and projection, which improves after 2-4 weeks.
- Lightly visible stretch marks may appear.
What should I do and not do before/after the hydrogel injections?
Usually, the hydrogel injections only take 2 hours, which involves signing consent forms and recovery time. The entire process does not end when you leave the plastic surgeon’s office. There are some things you must do and consider after the hydrogel injections:
- Take anti-inflammatory medications as advised by the doctor.
- Sleep on your stomach or side 24 hours after the procedure.
- Massage the injection areas as instructed by the doctor.
- Avoid using hot packs or ice on the injected region.
- Avoid strenuous activities for 48 hours.
- Do not stay sitting for long periods of time.
